Studio portrait of 1254 Private (Pte) Alexander Charles (Alec) Cranston, 16th Battalion, of Eudunda, SA. An ironmonger prior to enlistment, he embarked from Adelaide on HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 22 December 1914. He was killed in action on 2 May 1915 on the Gallipoli peninsula. He was aged 20 years.
