Description

Studio portrait of 3667 Private (Pte) Edmund Mortimer Bradshaw, 7th Field Ambulance, of Adelaide, South Australia. A bank clerk with three years service in the 81st Field Artillery, Citizens' Military Forces, Pte Bradshaw enlisted on 39 March 1915 and embarked from Adelaide aboard HMAT Geelong (A2) two months later. Following service in Gallipoli, the 7th Field Ambulance moved to France, where Pte Bradshaw was awarded the Military Medal (MM) in November 1916. His recommendation stated: "This man was stationed at Goose Alley, N.W of Flers on 7 November 1916; while a heavy barrage was being maintained on the area, he set out to assist a wounded man who was observed some 200 yards from the dressing station. He rendered first aid, dressing his wounds, and carried him back to the aid post. He was under shrapnel fire the whole time, the personal risk he ran was great, and his action is worthy of the highest praise". On 3rd May 1917, Pte Bradshaw was wounded in action at the Second Battle of Bullecourt. He died 17 days later in 5th General Hospital, Rouen, and was buried at St Sever Cemetery Extension.
