Studio portrait of 403913 Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Edwin Atholwood Day, 460 Squadron RAAF, of Albury, NSW. The Lancaster bomber W 4837, along with two other aircraft, took off from RAF Station Breighton at 17:47 hours on 26 January with the directive to bomb Lorient, France. Flt Sgt Day, a Wireless Air Gunner was amongst the crew of six RAAF and one RAF members who did not return from the mission. Post war inquiries found no trace of the aircraft or its crew, and they were all presumed to have died on 27 January 1943.
