Description
A squadron of the 8th Light Horse Regiment (8 LHR) moving into battle against Turkish positions near Burg-el-Arab. Note the shell bursts in the distance. The photographer, 2601 Trooper (Tpr) George "Pop" Redding, 8 LHR, was identified ninety years later as the man picking anemones in the famous Frank Hurley photograph taken at Belah, Palestine c January 1918 (see P03631.046). Tpr Redding sent this print to the widow of his friend Captain (Capt) George Fay, 8 LHR, who was killed later in the day leading some of these men into battle.
