Studio portrait of QX20013 Private (Pte) William Dickenson Shearer of Clayfield, Qld. A storeman prior to enlisting in the Second AIF in June 1941, Pte Shearer served in the Pacific campaign with the 2/31st Battalion and was promoted to Lance Corporal (LCpl) in 1942 . He was killed in action during the 2/31st Battalion's assault on the Japanese base at Lae on 15 September 1943, aged 22.
