Studio portrait of SX3491 Lieutenant (Lt) John Ludbrook Grant, 2/27 Battalion of Adelaide, SA. The son of Gladys Alexandra Grant and Ernest Ludbrook Grant, a Regimental Sergeant Major in the British Army in the First World War, Lt Grant was a theological student prior to enlistment on 25 May 1940. He was killed in action on 6 July 1941 in Syria, aged 21. His sister, SF84577 Frances Gladys Grant served in the Australian Army Medical Women's Service (AAMWS), his twin brothers PA4690 Paul Ernest Grant and PA4691 Thomas Eric Grant served in the Royal Australian Navy.
