Studio portrait of 413805 Flying Officer (FO) Geoffrey Harold Waddell of Burwood, NSW. A Commonwealth Bank clerk before enlisting in the RAAF in September 1941, FO Waddell trained as an observer in Australia and Canada under the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS) and was posted to 172 Squadron RAF flying coastal command sorties in the English Channel and the Bay of Biscay. FO Waddell was listed as missing, presumed killed, when his Wellington bomber failed to return from an training flight on 19 September 1943. He was aged 33 at the time of his death, and has no known grave.
