Description

A Memorial Card incorporating a studio portrait of 3538 Private (Pte) Belford Wellington Earl, 55th Battalion of Narrabri, NSW. A station hand prior to enlistment on 4 August 1915, Pte Earl initially enlisted with the 3rd Battalion and embarked from Sydney on 2 November 1915 aboard HMAT Euripides. He was transferred to the 55th Battalion as part of the 'doubling-up' of the AIF in February 1916 and sent to France for service on the Western Front several weeks later. Pte Belford Earl died of wounds on 11 May 1917 during the Second Battle of Bullecourt and is buried at Boulogne Eastern Cemetery.
