Informal portrait of 24594 Ordinary Seaman James McGregor, HMAS Canberra, of Mortdale, NSW. He enlisted on 16 September 1940 and spent ten months at HMAS Penguin and Cerberus before joining HMAS Canberra. He was promoted to the rank of Able Seaman (AB) on 25 May 1942. AB McGregor was killed in action when HMAS Canberra was sunk on 9 August 1942 off Savo Island in the battle of Guadalcanal.
