Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX27570 Private Stanley Edgar Thomas Moroney, 2/101 General Transport Company, Australian Army Service Corps, Australia and Middle East, 1941-1947.

Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one telegram, one airgraph letter, and one commemorative scroll relating to Private Moroney.
The telegram was sent from Private Moroney’s wife, Mrs Doris 'Dot' Moroney, to Private Moroney from Sydney on 4 February 1941. In her telegram, Mrs Moroney informs Private Moroney that she had given birth to a son. Private Moroney later sent the telegram back to her to keep for good luck.
The airgraph letter and associated envelope was sent from Private Moroney to Mrs Moroney on 20 November 1942. In his letter, sent during his service in the Middle East, Private Moroney writes about being in the middle of a dust storm, the war looking better for the Allies in the Middle East, and looking forward to receiving parcels from home.
The commemorative scroll was issued to the family of Private Moroney after his death in 1947.

History / Summary

Private Stanley Edgar Thomas Moroney enlisted to the Second Australian Imperial Force on 20 June 1940. He served with 2/101 General Transport Company in the Middle East and Australia. Although he was formally discharged on 23 February 1944, Private Moroney continued to serve as part of the Citizens’ Military Forces. On 27 April 1947, Private Moroney was killed in a road accident in New South Wales. He is buried at Woronora General Cemetery, Sydney, New South Wales.
