Description

Studio portrait of 2584 Private (Pte) Percival Francis Day, 3rd Battalion, of Lockhart NSW. A farmer prior to enlistment, Pte Day embarked on HMAT Runic (A54) on 9 August 1915. He was briefly attached to the 11th Battalion and his service number changed to 2584A. Pte Day was awarded the Military Medal on 10 May 1917 for leading an attack against an enemy trench and taking the garrison prisoners. Soon after, he was promoted to corporal. Cpl Day MM was killed in action on 4 October 1917 at Flanders, Belgium. He was 20 years of age.
