A night march to the line
Description
Depicts an officer on horseback leading a troop of soldiers wearing tin helmets and bearing arms. Another officer walks down the side of the troop formation as if inspecting them for the last time before they embark for the front. They stand in marching formation on a road; the last buildings of a village stand behind them, without any visible bomb damage, as symbols of what they march off to protect.
