Studio portrait of 4272 Corporal (Cpl) Robert William Gordon Cowley (Gordon), 32nd Battalion, of Sunny Hill SA. A farmer prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 11th Reinforcements on board HMAT Afric (A19) on 7 November 1916. Pte Cowley served in Belgium and France and died on 19 June 1918 near Amiens of wounds inflicted in action. He was 22 years of age.
