Studio portrait of 3437 Private (Pte) Philip John Waller, 1st Pioneer Battalion, of Hunters Hill NSW. A fireman prior to enlistment, Pte Waller embarked with the 8th Reinforcements on HMAT Beltana (A72) on 25 November 1916. On 4 October 1917, he died in Belgium of wounds received in action. He was 25 years of age.
