Studio portrait of 8549 Clerk George Campbell McNeilage, 6th Field Artillery Brigade, who was a 25 year old commercial traveller from Gawler, South Australia when he enlisted on 14 September 1915. He embarked for overseas from Melbourne on 22 November 1915 aboard HMAT Persic. While serving in France with the 22nd Field Artillery Brigade, he was gassed on 28 September 1917. After being evacuated to England, he returned to Australia and was discharged medically unfit on 24 April 1918. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
