Studio portrait of 1127 Private Bert Cook, 10th Battalion, who was a 28 year old clerk from North Adelaide, South Australia when he enlisted on 29 October 1914. He embarked for overseas from Melbourne on 27 December 1914 aboard HMAT Themistocles. After serving at Gallipoli, he transferred to the 4th Pioneer Battalion in France in April 1916, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on 22 June 1916 and promoted to Lieutenant three months later. He was promoted Captain on 25 May 1917 and returned to Australia on 19 February 1920. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
