Studio portrait of 28583 Gunner Benjamin Champion Prevost, 23rd Howitzer Brigade, who was a 22 year old wool buyer from Hyde Park, South Australia when he enlisted on 28 April 1916. He embarked for overseas with the 7th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 25 October 1916 aboard HMAT Ulysses. While serving with the 15th Light Trench Mortar Battery in France, he was wounded in action on 15 October 1917 but recovered to return to his unit less than two months later. Gunner Prevost returned to Australia on 30 August 1919 and went on to serve in the Second World War in the Volunteer Defence Corps from 26 March 1942 until 15 October 1945. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
