Studio portrait of Lieutenant Jack Marston Norton, 11th Field Company Engineers who was a 22 year old architect from Rose Park, South Australia, when he was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant on 23 March 1916 and embarked for overseas from Adelaide on 31 May 1916 aboard HMAT Suevic. He saw action in France and while at Messines in February 1918, suffered so badly from trench feet that he had to be evacuated to England for treatment. Lieutenant Norton later returned to Australia and his appointment was terminated on 4 February 1920. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
