Studio portrait of Lieutenant Alexander Lorimer Kennedy, No. 1 Mining Corps who was a 26 year old draughtsman from Woodside, South Australia when he enlisted on 30 August 1915. He was commissioned on 27 November 1915 and embarked for overseas as a Second Lieutenant with the No 3 Company from Sydney on 20 February 1916 aboard HMAT Ulysses. While serving with the 3rd Tunnelling Company in France, he was wounded in action and evacuated to England but later returned to his unit in France. Lieutenant Kennedy arrived back in Australia on 4 June 1919. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
