Description

Studio portrait of G. Miell, possibly 57175 Private Horatio Gordon Miell, 3rd Light Horse Regiment who was a 19 year old jackaroo from St Peters, South Australia when he enlisted on 10 April 1918. He embarked for overseas from Sydney with the 3rd South Australian General Service Reinforcements for Egypt, on 10 June 1918 aboard HMAT Wiltshire and saw action with the 9th Light Horse Regiment in the Middle East. Private Miell arrived back in Australia on 10 August 1919. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
