Studio portrait of 1866 Sergeant (Sgt) Haddon Lancelot Bowen, 50th Battalion who was a 30 year old clerk from Adelaide, South Australia when he enlisted on 4 December 1915. He embarked for overseas as a Private with the 3rd Reinforcements from Adelaide on 13 July 1916 aboard HMAT Seang Bee. After being captured on 2 April 1917 during fighting near Noreuil, France, he was held as a Prisoner of War (POW) in camps at Limburg and Friedrichsfeld in Germany. Sgt Haddon was repatriated to England on 28 November 1918 and arrived back in Australia on 21 March 1919. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
