Studio portrait of 37672 Gunner Cecil Victor Newman, Field Artillery Brigade who was a 29 year old clerk from Torrensville, South Australia when he enlisted on 16 January 1917 and embarked for overseas with the 30th Reinforcements from Melbourne on 9 November 1917 aboard HMAT Port Sydney. He saw service in France with the 4th Divisional Ammunition Column and the 11 Field Artillery Brigade and after the end of hostilities, was discharged in England on 24 February 1919. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
