Studio portrait of 9464 Gunner Gordon MacKinnon Muirhead, 6th Field Artillery Brigade who was a 20 year old bank clerk from Gilberton, South Australia when he enlisted on 18 July 1915 and embarked for overseas with the 1st Reiinforcements from Melbourne on 22 November 1915 aboard HMAT Persic. On 24 November 1917, he was appointed a Second Lieutenant and saw action with various artillery units in France. He returned at Australia as a Lieutenant and his appointment was terminated on 21 February 1920. Lieutenant MacKinnon also served in Australia during the Second World War. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
