Studio portrait of WX7469 Private (Pte) Thomas Joseph Butler, 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion, of Perth, WA. The 2/4th Machine Gun Battalion left for Singapore in January 1942 and fought to defend the island until it was surrendered to the Japanese on 15 February 1942. Pte Butler died on 14 February 1942 of wounds received in action. He was 35 years of age.
