Studio portrait of 5689 Gunner Arnold Alexander Macully, 3rd Field Artillery Brigade who was a 21 year old farmer from Brighton, South Australia when he enlisted on 7 August 1915. He embarked for overseas from Melbourne on 11 October 1915 aboard HMAT Nestor and served in the Middle East and on the Western Front. While in Egypt he was injured but recovered to go on to serve with the 14th Field Artillery Brigade in France. On 22 October 1918 he was wounded and the next day died of wounds at Tremont, near Bohain, France. Gunner Macully is buried in the Premont British Cemetery, France. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
