Studio portrait of 73 Sergeant Aubrey Rowland Grove Fearby, 27th Battalion who was a 27 year old traveller from Adelaide, South Australia when he enlisted on 22 February 1915. He embarked for overseas from Adelaide on 31 May 1915 aboard HMAT Geelong. While serving at Gallipoli, he was wounded in action on 26 September 1915 and evacuated to England for treatment. He rejoined the 27th Battalion in France in March 1916 however his wound continued to cause concern and in June 1916 he was again evacuated to England. Sergeant Fearby returned to Australia and was discharged, medically unfit, on 29 December 1916. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
