Studio portrait of 201 Private (Pte) Richmond Ambrose Walsh, 32nd Battalion, of Unley, SA. Pte Walsh's actual name was Andrew Clement Walsh but being just 17, and therefore under legal enlistment age in 1915, he enlisted under the name of an elder brother. Pte Walsh, who stated that his occupation at enlistment was 'horse driver', embarked on board HMAT Geelong (A2) on 18 November 1915. He was listed as missing in action in July 1916. It was reported to his family in October 1916 that he had been wounded. Subsequent investigations, however, showed that Pte Walsh had been killed in action at Fleurbaix, near Fromelles on 20 July 1916. Pte Walsh's two older brothers also enlisted: 220 Pte Francis Raphael Walsh, who enlisted on the same day, and also in the 32nd Battalion; and 12688 Private George Leslie Walsh, 11th Field Ambulance. Both survived the war.
