Studio portrait of NX38804 Acting Sergeant (A/Sgt) Eric Frank Haase, 2/3 Reinforcements, 8 Division Signals, of Brighton Le Sands, NSW. A company director in civilian life, A/Sgt Haase originally enlisted as a signalman on 12 June 1940, serving with the RRD (Recruitment Reception Depot ?). On 22 March 1941 he was discharged on compassionate grounds. He re-enlisted in the 8th Division Signals on 15 July 1941, and was later promoted to the rank of sergeant. Sgt Haase died of malnutrition on 13 December 1943 in Burma, aged 39, whilst a prisoner of the Japanese.
