Studio portrait of TX677 Sergeant (Sgt) Bernard Linton McKay, 2/12th Infantry Battalion, of Launceston, Tas. A railway porter prior to enlistment, Sgt McKay served in Palestine and was awarded the Military Medal in August 1941 for his service at Tobruk. The 2/12th Battalion left Palestine in February 1942 and, after leave in Australia, were sent to New Guinea. Sgt McKay MM, aged 31, was killed in action at Sanananda, New Guinea, on 11 January 1943.
