Studio portrait of VX25605 Private (Pte) Harry Lawrence, 2/21 Battalion, of Beverford, Vic. An orchardist and fruit store worker prior to enlistment, Pte Lawrence was promoted to acting lance corporal before embarking for overseas service. On 7 August 1945 he died of illness (beri beri) as a prisoner of the Japanese, at the Tantoei POW camp, Galala, Ambon, aged 40.
