Studio portrait of VX50460 Private (Pte) Thomas Hutchins 2/21 Battalion, of Rainbow, Vic. Pte Hutchins enlisted on 5 March 1941 and was one of 6 brothers who served during the Second World War. On 4 September 1945 he died of illness as a prisoner of the Japanese at Ambon, aged 32. Four of Pte Hutchin's brothers served overseas and one in Australia. All survived the war. Seven of Pte Hutchins's cousins (with the name Hutchins) also served overseas. Only three of this set of brothers survived. The other four died as prisoners of the Japanese, one at Rabaul and three at Ambon with their cousin, Pte Thomas Hutchins. (See P05555.001 - P05555.015 and P05930.001)
