Description
Studio portrait of an unidentified corporal on his return to Australia on 'Special' or 'Anzac' leave. This was a privilege was given to men who had been early 1914 enlistments and who were still on active service in 1918. As a sign of their status they were given a red, white and blue rosette to wear on each shoulder of their uniform. On the right sleeve of his uniform is an embroidered overseas service chevron which includes a red stripe for service in 1914. The corporal served at Gallipoli, as indicated by the A on his colour patch, which is the rectangular shape of a 1st Division unit.
