Studio portrait of NX41885 Private (Pte) James Joseph O'Hehir, Sparrow Force, of Goulburn, NSW. A baker prior to enlistment on 5 August 1941, Pte O'Hehir was attached to the 2nd Field Bakery in Darwin. In December 1941 Sparrow Force arrived in Timor. They were ordered to surrender in February 1942 following the Japanese invasion and Pte O'Hehir became a prisoner of war. On 26 June 1944, Pte O'Hehir, aged 34, and many other members of Sparrow Force, died when the transport ship Tamahoko Maru was sunk by submarine USS Tang near Nagasaki, Japan.
