Studio portrait of 2459 Private (Pte) Joseph Turner, 28th Battalion of Boulder, WA. An assayer's assistant with service in the Goldfields Infantry Regiment (Citizens Military Forces) before enlisting in July 1915, Pte Turner left Australia for Egypt with the 5th Reinforcements, and arrived in France for service on the Western Front in March 1916. He was wounded in action at Pozieres, resulting in the amputation of his left arm. He died at the 23rd General Hospital at Etaples on 20 August 1916, aged 25.
