Studio portrait of Engine Room Artificer 1st Class (ERA1) Ivo Ignatius Bibby, RAN, of Bondi, NSW. ERA1 Bibby enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 29 July 1918, and embarked from Sydney with the 16th (Victorian) Reinforcements on the SS Carpentatia on 7 November 1918. With the end of the war, the troopship was recalled and he was demobilised. He joined the Royal Australian Navy on 9 July 1920 and served on various ships and shore establishments through the 1920s and 1930s, including serving in England during the commissioning of the submarines HMAS Otway, HMAS Ovens and HMAS Oberon. On 2 June 1938 he joined the crew of HMAS Sydney [II]. He was killed in action on 20 November 1941, when the Sydney was sunk with the loss of all hands by the German raider Kormoran.
