Studio portrait of 2354 Sergeant John James Cadden, 2nd Division Headquarters, of Bunbury, WA. A civil servant prior to his enlistment, Cadden embarked as a private with the 5th Reinforcements of the 28th Battalion from Fremantle on HMAT Themistocles on 13 October 1915. Following a series of promotions he reached the rank of lieutenant with the Anzac Provost Corps. On 31 October 1918 Lieutenant Cadden died of influenza and pneumonia at the 3rd London General Hospital. He was aged 30.
