Studio portrait of QX1585 Acting Warrant Officer Class 2 (A/WO2) Jack Richard Reinke, 2/33 Battalion of Jamestown, SA. A/WO2 Reinke died of injuries in New Guinea on 7 September 1943 at Jackson's Airfield when an American Liberator taking off in darkness and flying very low, struck a tree and crashed into trucks carrying members of the 2/33rd battalion and the 158th General Transport Company. Fifty nine men were killed or died of injuries in the accident, including the two pilots. Reinke's brother, Acting Corporal William Henry Reinke, 2/10 Battalion had been killed in action in New Guinea nine months earlier on 21 January 1943.
