Studio portrait of 3458 Private (Pte) James Stewart, 13th Battalion. Originally of Aberdeen, Scotland, Pte Stewart worked as a cabinet maker in Auburn, NSW, prior to enlistment. He embarked with the 11th Reinforcements from Sydney aboard HMAT Port Lincoln on 13 October 1915. Later promoted to the rank of Corporal, Stewart was killed in action in France on 9 August 1918, aged 24. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
