Studio portrait of 2133 Lance Corporal (later Corporal) Francis Cotterill Burridge MM, 56th Battalion, of Belmore, NSW. He is wearing a Lewis Gunner badge on his right arm. A wheelwright before enlisting on 20 March 1916, Cpl Burridge embarked from Sydney on HMAT Port Sydney on 4 September 1916 with the 4th Reinforcements. He was awarded the Military Medal for his actions on 1 and 2 September 1918 at Peronne, which included attacking an enemy machine gun with a Lewis Gun. He returned to Australia on 2 June 1919.
