Description
Studio portrait of 33871 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) James Leslie Cox of Bathurst, NSW. A fitter before enlisting in the RAAF in September 1940, LAC Cox was posted to 20 Squadron RAAF as an armourer and fitter. LAC Cox was listed as missing after his Catalina aircraft, serial number A24-8, failed to return from a reconnaissance flight over Salamaua on 21 January 1942. It was later determined that LAC Cox was killed along side three of his seven other crew members when the rudder of A24-8 was shot out by anti-aircraft fire from Japanese warships over Kavieng. Aged 21 at the time of his death, he has no known grave.
