Studio portrait of 178 Corporal (Cpl) Norman Alan Cook, 6th Battalion, of Garden Vale, Vic. A farmer and driver prior to enlistment, Private Cook embarked with B Company from Melbourne on HMAT Hororata on 19 October 1914. After serving at Gallipoli and on the Western Front, and temporarily transferring to the 58th Battalion, Cpl Cook returned to the 6th Battalion. He was detached to England for training with the 23rd Training Battalion. On 21 July 1917 he died in Fargo Military Hospital of wounds accidentally received during training. He was aged 26.
