Description

Studio portrait of 3066 Private (Pte) Otto John Niemann, 10th Battalion AIF. Pte Niemann, a labourer from Copperhouse SA, enlisted on 15 June 1915. He served on Gallipoli and was killed in action near Pozieres, France betweem the 21st and 23rd of July 1916. His body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Australian Memorial at Villers Bretonneux, France.
His mother Anna added the following detail to the Roll of Honour Circular she completed for the Australian War Museum: " Pte O J Niemann was reported missing , no definite information has ever been accorded me!! Officers of the 10th Battalion have said he was a brave soldier and as such he must have fought well"
