Studio portrait of 4110 Pte (Pte) Leslie George Grayland, 24th Battalion AIF. Pte Grayland, a farmer from Macarthur, Vic , died of wounds in England on 28 September 1916 and is buried in the Portsdown (Christ Church) Military Cemetery at Hampshire. His younger brother 5106 Pte John Grayland, 14th Battalion AIF, and also a farmer from the same district, was killed in action at Pozieres, France, on 7 August 1916. His body was never recovered and he is commemorated on the Australian War Memorial at Villers Bretonneux, France.
