Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No 1 Mk III* (SMLE) Rifle
Short Magazine Lee-Enfield No 1 Mk III* bolt action rifle. Receiver marked with a crown over GR BSA Co 1918 Sht LE III under the bolt arm and the serial number on the breech ring. The butt has an unmarked brass insert disc. Complete with a webbing sling stamped G GILES WRIGHTS LTD 1916 on the brass end plate.
Order a copyThere is no known historical provenance attached to this particular rifle. It was added to the National Collection during the 1920's and is most likely to have been part of a large donation from the British Government.
The manufacturer of this rifle, the Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) Co Ltd were one of the prolific makers of the sturdy battle proven Short Magazine Lee Enfield (SMLE) No 1 Mk III* rifle.
Australian troops during the First World War, Second World War and the Korean conflict (1950-1953) used a combination of Australian and British made SMLE rifles. All had interchangable parts.
