Studio portrait of 6315 Sergeant (Sgt) William Claude (Claud) Barker, 4th Field Artillery Brigade, of Warrnambool, Vic. Sgt Barker was a labourer prior to enlisting in August 1915. He was promoted to Sergeant the following month and embarked on board HMAT Wiltshire (A18) on 18 November 1915. Sgt Barker served on the Western Front and was killed in action at Bullecourt, France, on 25 May 1917, aged 27. Sgt Barker's brother, 64796 Private Stanley Redvers Barker, 7th General Service Reinforcements, died of pneumonia in Egypt on 29 November 1918, aged 18.
