Studio portrait of VX19418 Corporal (Cpl) Ronald Richard Protheroe, 2/106 General Transport Company, of Boree Creek, NSW. A farmer prior to enlistment, Cpl Protheroe served in Palestine as a driver and was promoted to Corporal in April 1942. In November the 2/106 General Transport Company was sent to New Guinea. Cpl Protheroe was promoted to Acting Lance Sergeant (A/L Sgt) and attached to the 1st Papuan Infantry Battalion. On 4 July 1943 A/L Sgt Protheroe was accidentally drowned in the Watut River, near Shaggy Ridge New Guinea. Nearby Mount Prothero was named after him.
