Studio portrait of 1016 Private (Pte) Ernest Alfred Williams, 39th Battalion, of Glengarry, Vic. A farm labourer before enlisting on 14 March 1916, he embarked from Melbourne on HMAT Ascanius on 27 May 1916. He was killed in action in Belgium on 12 October 1917, at the age of 27.
