Studio portrait of QX7871 Private (Pte) John Colin MacDonald, 2/26th Battalion, of Innisfail, Qld. Pte MacDonald enlisted in November 1940 and was later promoted to the rank of sergeant. The 2/26th Battalion arrived in Singapore in August 1941 as part of the 27th Brigade. It deployed in Malaya and continued training and preparing defences against invasion. In January 1942 the 2/26 Battalion returned to Singapore to assist with the defence of the city. Ptet MacDonald died on 15 February 1942 of wounds received in action. He was 34 years of age.
