Description

Studio portrait of 235 Private (Pte) Arthur Francis Mitchell, 40th Battalion, of Ringarooma, Tas. A labourer prior to enlistment, Pte Mitchell embarked with the 40th Battalion on board HMAT Berrima (A35) on 1 July 1916. He served on the Western Front and was wounded in action in January 1917. Pte Mitchell was killed in action at Passchendaele, Belgium on 14 February 1917. He was 20 years of age.
