Studio portrait of 2926 Private (Pte) Eric Austin Tate, 20th Battalion, of Kangaroo Valley, NSW. A farmer prior to enlistment, Pte Tate embarked on board HMAT Euripides (A14) on 2 November 1915. He was promoted to sergeant on 3 August 1917. Sergeant Tate was killed in action by shell fire at Passchendaele, Belgium on 9 October 1917. He was 26 years of age.
